Pokemon Trozei / Nintendo DS : 3 of 5

My favorite kind of game is easy to learn, but stays fun after lots of playing, and Pokemon Trozei definitely has those qualities! I was interested in this game before it came out, but after reading some so-so reviews I held off a while, but I had to use some Best Buy Reward Zone money, so I finally got it. Even though I'm actively playing a couple of other DS games, this one has still been getting a ton of attention (sometimes for up to an hour straight, which leaves me seeing little Pokemon heads whenever I close my eyes)! The puzzle aspect is really simple - you just slide rows of Pokemon to match four faces vertically or horizontally, which "captures" them. After you make a capture with four in a row, you can quickly make one with three in a row, and then two, so you can get multiple captures really quickly. All of this is under a time limit, and you have to worry about the playing field filling up (like Tetris). There's a story mode that provides a Pokemon background to the whole thing, and it's kind of fun infiltrating "storage facilities" to gather the Pokemon that the villains have captured, culminating in really hard boss levels where the bad guys mess with your game while you play! The graphics are pretty cool (I love the little iconic Pokemon faces), and the background music is a really nice techno soundtrack. I'm not too psyched about the cartoon quality of the characters in the story, but they still have a fun Powerpuff Girls look to them. I definitely want to keep playing to work on my list of Pokemon (I have about 30% of the possible ones so far), and I've got to beat all the bosses, too!

Pokemon Pinball / GameBoy Advance : 5 of 5

I used to love playing Pokemon Pinball on my old GameBoy Color - I like games that I can learn in five minutes or less, and nothing is easier to control than a pair of pinball flippers! This new version of one of my favorite games is excellent on GameBoy Advance! The graphics and sound are really nice, and the movement of the ball rolling as the screen scrolls vertically up and down the pinball table is fantastic. There are two playfields to choose from, and each has lots of fun things to light up so you can start "Catch Em" mode and nab some Pokemon, which are all stored for you in your Pokedex (providing a reason for playing over and over again). Even though this game features tons of new Pokemon that I never learned about in my Poke-phase, it's still a blast to catch one of my old favorites (like Jigglypuff!).

Pokemon 3: The Movie : 4 of 5

Although my poke-lust has waned quite a bit, I have to say that I loved Pokemon 3! This is the best movie of the bunch without a doubt - the story is very creative and kind of heartwarming, and the animation is actually beautiful - certainly way above the caliber of the series! The plot involves a little girl that creates a fantasy world driven by the power of some mysterious Pokemon called the "Unown", so there are lots of spectacular scenes and battles and tons of new Pokemon. Maybe I'll have to watch the series a little more - I still think Brock is the coolest.

Pokemon Trading Card Game / GameBoy Color : 3 of 5

I have to thank Shelly for this one - after he purchased this and became addicted, I had to buy one too so we could hook up the link cable and battle like the geeks we are. If you like the Pokemon card game in real life, you'll love this - way easier to keep track of things (though the physical cards are cooler to look at, of course). As I said, you can trade cards and battle using a link cable, so buy one of those, too!

Pokemon Stadium / Nintendo 64 : 4 of 5

After spending all those hours with Pokemon Yellow (see below), what do you do with all those Pokemon? Battle them in 3D, of course! Pokemon Stadium is basically just the battle mode of all the GameBoy Pokemon games (turn based) with super graphics, very cool fighting moves and effects, and a goofball announcer. Get this and wipe out a Farfetched to see his trembling wing reaching for his leek just before he returns to the Pokeball!

This game is a commitment. I didn't think I would be that into it, but once you start, you're reading strategy guides and surfing the web for secrets (won't anyone trade me a Bedrill?). Pretty lousy color, but a great game, updated from the classic Red and Blue to be more like the TV show. Pika pika!

Brock returns
4.24.2000

Just when I thought my Poke-lust might be waning, the WB lets loose with a new Pokemon series called The Johto Journeys. The theme song declares "It's a whole new world, but you still gotta catch 'em all", as if to doom the audience (me) to certain addiction. Basically, the entire storyline has started over (just like it did with the Orange Islands crap) with new badges, new battles and the usual, but with the addition of all the new Pokemon that have been creeping up everywhere and (Mikey gets a tear in his eye) - the return of Brock. Yes, Brock is back, and in the first Johto episode managed to hit on five women in 30 minutes. Ah, Brock. I hope Tracy Sketchum is sitting in a dark room drawing pictures of Misty and shooting heroin.

Pokemon 2000 : 3 of 5

I must confess that my Pokemon lust has decreased quite a bit since Pokemon: The First Movie, but I still completely enjoyed this one (released in Japan a year ago, I hear). This is actually the better of the two movies, with much more action, better use of Team Rocket, and a cooler story. However, it had less emotional involvement that I used to love about the series (I miss Brock!), although Misty does admit she has feelings for Ash - finally! No Pikachu tears in this one, so leave your Kleenex at home.
