Last weekend I took a quick two-day trip to visit my pal Dae, and we spent two spectacular days at Disneyland! It was a really fantastic trip, since I was extra excited to see the park all polished up for the 50th anniversary celebration. We also enjoyed an incredible meal at Napa Rose, Disney's Zagat-rated four-star restaurant in the Grand Californian Hotel, and saw the Angels beat the Yankees in an awesome baseball game! I went completely crazy with my new camera, and I took over 500 photos - Dae took a few hundred as well, so I have way too many pictures to share all at once! There's also lots of details I want to write about, so I'm going to cover everything over the next several days (probably every other day). To make Mom happy, I'm starting with all the photos that Dae and I took of each other!

One of my fun experiences was riding the Sailing Ship Columbia (a replica of the first American ship to circumnavigate the globe, which took three years!). In all of my time at Disneyland, I had never taken a trip on the Columbia before, and I really enjoyed it. You can go below deck to see what the crew's quarters were like, and during the journey the crew fires one of the canons (which was loud and exciting!). I also thought the music was really nice to listen to while watching the flag waving in the sun. It made me think that this attraction is something that could never get built today - I can't imagine today's executives saying "What we really need in Disneyland is a replica of a 1787 sailing ship!" But back in Walt's day, if he decided he wanted it, he built it. That's why Disneyland is so special, and that's why it's important to keep these attractions around - there will never be another Walt, and no one could have built Disneyland in the same magical way.Labels: disney, photos, trips
