I hadn't even heard of this movie until I watched the trailer on the web, and then I knew I had to go. I've enjoyed everything Tim Burton's done, since he has such a talent for developing imaginary mythologies (such as The Nightmare Before Christmas, and even the story of snow in Edward Scissorhands). Ewan McGregor plays the main character as a young man, since most of the plot takes place through stories that are surreal and mesmerizing. I have to say, this is a strange movie, but it really keeps you glued to the screen, wondering if the line between fantasy and reality will ever be clearly drawn. There are some fantastic images here, full of color and wonder, especially in the town of Spectre. The circus scenes are brilliant, and really make the love story worthwhile. Big Fish is incredibly tough to describe - it's just something to see and take away whatever meaning you like. For me, it was a realization that being truly happy always involves some kind of fantasy, and it's important to keep that alive.Labels: movies
