Pirates of the Caribbean : 5 of 5
When I heard that Disney was making a movie inspired by one of my favorite Disneyland attractions, I was worried that they would make a mess of it (like they did with The Country Bears). I was able to see it soon after opening day (with my parents in Oklahoma City), and I'm so happy to report that Pirates of the Caribbean is a fantastic movie, with just enough touches to keep the ride enthusiasts happy, and tons of excitement for the general public! The writers really did a fine job of incorporating ride elements into a great story - the skeletal ghost pirates are such an ingenious homage to the spooky skeletons that inhabit the ride's caves. All of the acting is enjoyable, and the action is non-stop. I had a great time keeping my eyes open for things from the ride, and there are lots of them beyond the obvious jail scene and the use of the song. It's also nice to see a true swashbuckler film again, just full of adventure with no heavy-handed message. Yo ho!
